You should avoid your waist area, and personally those "comfort" sets aren't all that great (I call 'em dis-comforts).

You might want to give the Insets a try; they are easier to put in w/ an automatic inserter rather than manual.

The blood thing does happen, but not often and you should find that you won't feel your sets at all so don't expect "pain" to be worth it. If a set is bothering you it needs to be changed, not suffered with.
