Hello!
I've lost 1 1/2 stone since last July. That's 21 lbs or, if you prefer 9.5 kg. Have gone down 2 dress sizes. I'm still losing, slowly, as I have been told losing yet another stone (14 lbs) should be my final target.
I had to lose weight to keep diabetes in control but feared dieting would make BG go through the roof. Last year, my diabetes was rather out of control... and dieting proved to be merely impossible. So what did I do?
You will perhaps think I'm nuts but... I got the idea from a Visa statement
I just put little things on my Visa... and gas for my car. I don't spend lots of money. Nonetheless, each month, my Visa bill is quite big. Looking at it closely, I found out £7 here... £15 there... all added up to a huge amount at the end of the month. Then I saw the light!!!
It's the same with what we eat. If you are careful about this, and about that... a little less fat here, and a little less fat there... you don't starve yourself to death, you don't think about 'cheating' all the time, BG is kept under control... and slowly, and gently well it makes enough a difference to lose weight. I like cooking too so I try lots of recipes. I only teach French part time so I have lots of spare time on my hands to do so.
Of course, I must outline the importance of exercice too. Vital! My main problem is... I'm so busy sometimes and tired that I tell myself Oh! Tomorrow. And tomorrow comes and... I don't do it. The less I do, the less I want to do! But I've found something that is working ---well so far!
I do what I like best; brisk walks, usually in the morning. Ride my bike now and then. Don't use my car or park it far far away in the parking lot. My daughter has this dance mat and we have little competitions. It's fun! I go for a walk with hubby after dinner. I got this book 'Ten minute work out' but I must admit... alone, and at home... ack!!! Hard to keep at it. You lose interest. In other words, I've set myself this daily goal : to do 20 minutes minimum. No matter how high the ironing pile gets... or how badly I need to vacuum... or how tired I am... well I just do it. And oddly enough, I don't feel as tired when I exercice on a regular basis.
Well this is what I do. It works for me. Most of the time anyway! I don't over stress with it and I don't weigh myself more than twice a month. It's better to notice the difference in your clothes! Is a better guide. And you always feel a bit better too...
And by the way... have tried to put my Visa on a 'diet' but doesn't work
Marie
