I have Type I and no one in the family ever has--I am the first. I also know people (one in particular) who had grandparents that had it, were overweight, etc. and she never got it (I am talking over 400 lbs). Maybe it can be inherited if all the recessive genes match up, but I really don't think Type I is as much as it is environmental or something--viral. Just my opinion.
