You know what....I WAS going to consider the Spirit pump

I had a demo of the Paradigm pump tonight. Nice pump overall but there were a couple of things mentally holding me back:

1) Proprietary infusion sets & connector that seems less secure than a luer lock.
2) AAA battery as opposed to a more powerful and longer lasting AA (disetronic) or Lithium (Animas).
3) Menu hierarchy that is not as user friendly as it should be. The layout and simplicity of the software in the Disetronic DTronPlus & Spirit is about as good as it gets imo. Simple, Fast, intuitive. The Minimed seems more layered. More button presses are needed to accomplish the same thing that I can do now, not as bad as Animas, but not as good as Disetronic. Yes it has more features, but I'm not sure If I'll ever use the 'bolus wizard'.

I went back to look over the Spirit simulator & the materials Disetronic mailed to me. I was going to call Disetronic tomorrow and schedule a Demo of the Spirit in my home (that is if they even have sales representatives - who knows to be honest considering that no one has called me) but then I read more closely the details on a piece of paper that discusses the "Special Offer" for all current Disetronic users (Treo 650, 2nd pump with 180 days of runtime, or "30 day starter kit". Here I thought they were actually giving their current customers a freebie for being loyal to them all these years -something a rep told me 2 years ago. Looks like I was mistaken, the "Special Offer" is a trade-in offer:

"To take advantage of this offer, you must agree to return your H-TRON, H-TronPlus or D-TRONplus insulin pump and any back-up pumps to Disetronic after you receive and convert to your new Accu-Chek Spirit insulin pump system."

Hey Disetronic - I want to congratulate you on your superior public relations skills! What a great way to build goodwill with the same customers who kept using your products and consumables despite numerous recalls, an FDA importation ban, and disappointing customer communications regarding both matters.

What a joke.
