Changing basal rates during the day is quite normal. I have 6 changes throughout the day. Lowest in the mid morning to lunch and highest in the early morning for my DP. Not only are changes during the day normal, there are folks who have a "weekend" setting to adjust their basal rates to their normal weekend activity level vs their work week. Your DE or your pump nurse should be able to give you some help by reviewing your data and making changes based on it. After tweaking it a bit you'll get used to what to look for and how far in advance you need to make the adjustment to head off high or low.
Good luck!
Ken
