different meter readings

I've got three meters and decided to see how close the readings were to each other and could not believe the different readings I got. I took the readings all at the same time and from the same finger. I did this several times between yesterday and today and came up with drastically different numbers. Example: 2 hours after lunch today,
One Touch Ultra-107
accu-check Compact Plus-123
Accu-Check Aviva-143
Has anyone else done this and come up with such a discrepancy in numbers? I went to a diabetics class this afternoon and was told this is normal and to use the meter that reads the lowest and add 15% because none of them are very accurate. I've been using the One Touch since I was diagnosed a month ago and thought I was doing real good since my numbers have gradually been dropping to under 140 two hours after eating and under 110 in the morning. Now I'm not sure what to believe.
