If you do not go to the ER, please get a blood glucose monitor and ketone testing strips. They are not too expensive here (except for the strips), I am not sure about Canada. If you see moderate or high ketones he needs to go to the ER immediately. But he needs to be testing his blood sugar in order to find out what's going on when he has symptoms.
