I used to use Humulin I (Is that the same as NPH?) and humolog before lantus and ultimately Levimer came on the market. Although it did not offer the same level of flexibility that is now possible with analogue basle insulins, there was still room for some dose adjustments for normality if you know how to carb count and test etc.
