A large amount of protein will cause me a similar BG spike overnight and to the next morning. Protein is processed slower than carbs so it'll take longer to see a rise. The amount of protein and what else I've eaten makes a difference too. It doesn't seem to make much difference to me if it's beef, pork, cheese or whatever but I know if I eat more than 4 oz, I'll need to run a extended wave bolus for 6 hours on my pump to prevent that spike. Since you're not using a pump, my suggestion is to test every few hours and correct with Apidra if you see your level going up. Someone else may have a better way of dealing with your problem on Lantus/Apidra.

This tends to happen to me after my evening meals too, but I've always blamed that on eating larger protein meals in the evening than I do the rest of the day. Could be different for you though. What time of the day do you inject your Lantus?

David
Hi David, thanks for your input.

It's definetely not a BG issue. BG stays flat as can be. My Lantus is split in 2 x 12 hourly doses as 1 every 24 hours didn't cover me well enough.
