Newly diagnosed and confused

Ok so im not strictly the one who has been newly diagnosed and confused but my boyfriend has. We have just found out that he has type 1, which @ 21 has come as quite a shock. He is tired of me listing out facts and figures and i know that he will find all these out in due course.What really is bothering me is how he really feels,he was very much young and free before this. I guess that i feel confused and afraid of what is to come and need someone who has been through all this before to say that it will be ok.
