GAD antibodies don't necessarily mean you are type 1, if you differentiate between type 1 and type 1.5. There may be any of a number of different antibodies that determine that you have an autoimmune response to your beta cells. My understanding is that GAD antibodies are present in type 1.5's and some (many?) type 1's who have had the disease for quite a while.
