I just read this one and wanted to let you know that my doctor insisted that I do every thing that was normal for a youth for activities. I got this T1 at 8 and the doctor told me to do one thing. If the coach told everyone to not eat before exercising, I was to do the opposite. This kept me out of hypos while practicing. I was a 4 year varsity gymnast in high School; I wrestled and worked with the football team. If you are going to burn off 5000 calories or so in a workout you may as well enjoy that banana split prior to your workout. Just make it a small one. Actually complex carbohydrates were best for keeping up energy for me. I ate a lot of oatmeal and honey prior to going to school.
For now If you order a small Banana split blizzard from Dairy Queen you can enjoy a small part of that and toss the rest of it . That way you can enjoy it and stay under control. I usually get one or two bites of my wife’s desert if I am craving, at a restaurant. I never seem to need more. But it is satisfying.
