FWIW, I actually use a BD pen to inject Lantus. It works with the BD needles that I use for everything else. It works fine. Wheter it exactly correlates to the markings on other pens on not I cannot be 100% sure, but what I do know is that if I dial up 20 on there it is right for me.

I went this way as I thought the original Lantus pen was so bad. My clinic gave me one of the Autopens last time I was there. Man alive does that thing stink. It is kept for emergency duties only, and I do hope I have to blow the dust off it before use...

Thanks for the link to the official Lantus pen; it's different from the one I tried 4 odd years ago, so I'll try and give that one a bash.
