Daily Averages of BG levels

Hi,
Does anyone know if averaging out your daily BG tests, to get one BG level, is an accurate way to keep track of your overall progress?

I have noticed that I have quite a few normal numbers, but at least once or twice a day, I'll find my numbers have jumped .... sometimes its if I wait to long between meals and sometimes its 2 hrs after a meal..... but then when I take the test an hour later (3hrs after the meal) the number is normal.

I've been on Metformin just under 1 month...
My last 8 days of averages are:
129, 130, 133, 126, 162, 116, 140, 146...
I test 5 to 7 times a day depending on what I eat.

I'd appreciate any thoughts... Thanks!!
