| I wouldn't stop taking Avandia without consulting my doctor... and as for new meds, he'll have suggestions as to what may work best for you.
My Stepmom was on Avandia, has been off now since the recall. Her #'s are going up slightly, but she is not on any diabetic medication at this time. Doc said he'd put her on something if A1C gets above 7. She had been on Avandia for 6-7 years. The swelling in her feet has also resolved.
My brother in law was on Avandia, Metformin and Lantus...he stopped Avandia on the advice of his doctor and has had to up his Lantus dose. Everyone is different.

Lower carb dieter (approx. 75 total carbs/day, more on weekends), taking chromium, multivitamin and fish oil tablets Initial A1C 8/06: 9.6
11/06: 6.2.
03/07: 5.3
06/07: 5.4
10/07: 5.3
05/08: 6.2 (after dealing with shingles & bronchiti)
