genetics
My son was the first diabetic diagnosed in our family. He was 23 when dx last Jan. Like your husband he may actually be a 1.5. We do, however, have some autoimmune diseases in our family. My mother died from complications from scleraderma, my mother's sister has inflammatory bowel syndrome and my double cousin (mom's were sisters, dad's were bros.) has MS.
