The good news here is that you actually had a thorough eye exam. Many diabetics find these breaks too late.

If caught early and blood glucose kept in a healthy range, the thought is that these breaks will be prevented or minimized. According to my doctor, he has seen them in diabetics with excellent control also. So, just do what you can and make sure you get regular eye check-ups (opthalmalogist)
