I have woken up with numbers in the 30s and 40s. It is uncommon for me and causes me to be very disoriented when I wake up but for the most part I'm not afraid of a fatal during the night low... unless of course I took 10 units of fast acting insulin before I went to bed without any carbs.

There could be any number of reasons for your low. It could be your basal amount, too much insulin for dinner, exercise, and the list goes on..
