Yes, it is normal for this to happen. Injecting insulin relieves the stress on the beta cells. And it is not unusual for it to look like the diabetes has gone away. But it is only temporary. You will sooner or later have to increase your insulin doses as the production of insulin by your beta cells declines and eventually stops altogether.
