Blue Sky, you are absolutely correct! A T1 can also become insulin resistant by gaining weight over the years. This can be treated with various insulin sensitizing drugs both oral and injectable as is the case with Symlin.

Many T1.5 are misdiagnosed as T2 due to age at time of diagnosis. Oral medications fail soon or never work at all. Only a regimen of insulin gives continued control and also reduces the pressure on their beta cells.
