Traveling to the Tropics?

This is perhaps a bit off piste..but..

I'm off to visit French Guiana in end of this month and are looking at taking malaria prophylaxis.
It wont be for a long period, 10 days maximum, and I will ofcourse consult my Doctor with this, as I do have some complications with eyes and kidneys (I'm on Enalapril and Lasix).

Though, would be real interested in hearing from anyone who have any experience of this and if your Doctors pointed out anything in particular to keep in mind part from the usual?

I am very aware that malaria prophylaxis really dont go well with some of the Diabetes issues one might have but malaria itself does not go well with anyone
