I took Malarone while in Africa. I had absolutely no issues with it at all. Came home malaria free.

A few insurance companies will not cover malarone as it is fairly new and expensive. Some of the other malaria medications will cause some severe side effects. Go to Travelers' Health | CDC and read about recommended malaria medications for the area of travel.
