If a child of mine were to become diabetic I think I would be more supportive as a parent than a non diabteic parent. If I knew when I was diagnosed what I know now I would have done a lot of things very differently. I was diagnosed at 15 when I was just discovering boys, drinking and smoking. As a diabetic parent I have a greater understanding of how tough things can be but also that if you look after yourself everything can be ok.
