Its works for now, but unfortunately there are consequences. I dropped 80 pounds before we got my system stabilized. Previously mentioned was the honeymoon period - during that period my weight went back up 15 pounds as I enjoyed the benefits of having a partially working endocrine system. You can read into that I was eating the border foods you mentioned.
However, as you progress with diabetes the honeymoon period ends, bg's start to creep up, and then you begin to have issues with cholesterol, triglicerides, and other fun side effects. Its better to stay away from unhealthy fats - especially sugary ones like ice cream and fries. A better choice would be to eat extra protein type fats such as red meat and cheese, but only as a short term weight gain solution since the heavy protein can be hard on the kidneys.
