I only became aware of this story this evening. It absolutely disgusts me.

There is a lot of blame flying around (rightly so), but why are we tiptoeing around the obvious? That religion itself is ultimately to blame? Sounds harsh, but regular, old run-of-the-mill, mild, moderate religion helps to foster religious extremes by teaching that unquestioning faith is a virtue, that you don't have to justify what you believe. It's an open door to terrible events such as this.

Just my two cents.
