I've been making my own bread since November 2007. I bought a B&D 2250 on sale at Wallyworld for $45. It's ok. I wouldn't buy it again, but I now have some experience and I'd know more about what I'm looking for. I certainly don't regret buying it for this price.

I've determined that most bread machine reviews on the net are ****. There seems to be a militant group of experienced know-it-alls who demand the finest performances. I found negative reviews on mine were outright lies.

Can you make low carb breads? I don't see why not. I don't. I make mostly a multi-grain based bread using Robin Hood best for breaf flour, Canuckian. It both tastes and behaves much much better than anything I've ever bought in a store. I don't think I could go back to store bought breads. I also cotrol the ingredients: salt, sugar, fiber. You'll have to google for low carb recipes and maybe see if you can find the proper ingredients first.
