There was a huge difference to me!

Apparently it's no coincidence that my early menopause came on at about the same time I began experiencing diabetes symptoms. (late twenties - far too early).

So now I'm on HRT and experiencing all the typical highs & lows of menopause mixed with the typical highs & lows of diabetes. *sigh*

Periods (or even phantom periods as I often experience these days) stuff up my BG something horrible. I'm getting a handle on it - I now know that I need an increased basal for 10 - 14 days of every month as well as a little extra Novorapid (I think those hormoes make me insulin resistant for a time??). Then I need to watch carefully, because on the day my period starts (or 'would have' started), I drop low and have to put a lot of effort in for about a day to avoid being low continuously. (OMG it's such hard work - I have to eat chocolate! Woe is me!!) From that point on I'm on lower basal again and slightly less NR too.

Diabetes definitely can affect your cycles - any health issue can do that! High blood sugars are a strain on your body, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's all there is to your late periods. If you have any doubt at all have a word with your doctor and keep your eyes open for other symptoms.

With a little luck things will go back to normal for you with better control

Taking on diabetes one meal at a time. It wins the odd battle but I'm winning the war.
Addicted to my Lantus, Novorapid and medicinal chocolate
*cough*
