I guess you are right, maybe I’m over analysing it

I did exactly that cut my bolus back and had a few small snacks, frequent tests.

What is your average TDD and Insulin:Carb ratio(s)? Maybe you could make a new post or post here (i dont mind) and see if people can solve your high BS, could be a number of factors from basal (Lantus) to I:C to stress. Having a "normal" BS would definitely make you feel better
