I'm not sure that the problem is with Lantus itself. The
best that you can expect from a long-acting insulin is that it will give flat coverage. If that's what you need, it probably will work fine. However, problems will arise if for you need a lot less insulin in the middle of the night, or have a basal requirement that isn't flat.
Expecting Lantus to deal with that is like blaming your dog because it can't sing Mozart arias. The most you should expect is for it to be good at barking.
