I've been on Lantus for over a year now, and I take 18u a day, split into two shots of 9u at 9am and 9pm. I do that for two weeks, and then I add an extra unit for two weeks. On and on that cycle to goes, to match the ups & downs of my hormones.
I'm quite impressed with Lantus. I had a horrible time trying to compete with the peak of NPH (Protophane as we call it here). Lunch time was always a bother especially if I was out. I hated having to eat to a schedule! I either got low, or narrowly avoiding a low, every lunch time. I got high every morning and every evening when the Protophane was weakest. I also had to go to bed with a higher BG because Protophane would lower me in the early hours
I'm sooo glad we have better insulins these days! However Protophane was a lifesaver in its day, and is still helpful for a lot of people.
But Lantus rocks
