For those who are taking Symlin, did your doc give you the power to change your dose on your own when starting out (from 15 to 30 to 45 etc) or give you instructions on how and when to do so?
I stared on Symlin about a week ago. First, it was like pulling teeth to get my doctor to agree to it. I don't know why

because my chief complaint is always that I am always hungry. Even after a large meal. I'm not really overweight but am close to it. I wanted something to control my BG levels after meals and to be able to feel full when eating.
Long story short, he calls in the script for 15mcg 3x daily (it's the pen) with meals and never said another thing to me except to decrease my insulin by 25%.
My solution... follow the website and increased the dose myself. I started at 15mcg for 3 days (no nausea) then went to 30mcg for 3 days (no nausea) and am now at 45mcg. (no nausea).
I know a lot of you are probably going to yell at me for changing the dose myself but my doc doesn't ever get back to me and he isn't too well educated on new medications. (a losing battle) p.s. I'm looking for a new doctor.
So..... just curious how common it is for people to be able to change their own dosages and what other doctors have done in a situation where you are supposed to increase the dose until you get to the maintenance dose of 60 or 120mcg. Had I not read the website and educated myself (as I do with all medications I take) I would never have known that the dose is supposed to be increased.
