I know this is waaaay after the fact, but, In windows, you can use the user agent switcher addon in Firefox (
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/59) to fool carelink into thinking Firefox is IE and it works fine. I'm still experimenting with getting the USB connector to work under IE/wine and Firefox in Linux. Linux at least recognizes the device as Cypress Semiconductor USB to Serial so that's something to go on.
