Ask the doctor to do an A1C. It should give him the answers you need. It will show your average Blood Glucose levels for the last 3-4 months. You mentioned that you are in a Non-English speaking country. If getting a A1C is not a option you could purchase a Blood Glucose Monitor and Testing Strips at the pharmacy. You do not need a prescription to buy these. If you do this you should check you BG when you get up every morning before any food or anything to drink(Fasting). Then you would need to test after meals (2 hours after taking the 1st bite). Keep a journal of your reading and when they were taken. I always circle my fasting reading. Someone on this forum can help you to understand the reading since they will most likely be in different format than I am used to. If they are high you can show them to the doctor. Good luck.
