| I am a type 1 diabetic and I used lantus during my pregnancy. I had complications completely unrelated to my diabetes- my son's placenta started to detach so he was not fully growing inside of me- he came premature but completely healthy and now over two years later has continued to exhibit no signs at all of any complication. The doctors don't like to advise women to use lantus during pregnancy because the insulin has not been around long enough to show whether or not it has any long term effects on the baby - my pregnancy was not planned so I had no choice as to what insulin to use but everyone was fine and the lantus helped me maintain a perfect HBA1C throughout the pregnancy. I would definately advise you to use an insulin you are comfortable using because it is more important to maintain your blood sugar levels while you are pregnant than to worry about the potential effect the insulin type can have on the baby. |
