Only side effect I've ever heard of is you will be peeing alot! But is that not what you need to do to get rid of fluids.
More seriously, drink more fluids this actually makes you not retain fluid! Second see if you can find cinnamon sticks boil in water till the water turns brown. Cool, strain and drink. This is what Native Americans called brown water but it will really get rid of fluid!!!!
