The DNA Recombinant Humulin Insulin has been on the market for 20 years now, and rather than get less expennsive, it's twice as expensive for Humalog than it was for Regular in '84. I use about 4-5 vials a month and am very lucky that I have insurance. I have made my last 3 job decisions based on what kind of medical insurance I could obtain. Luckily, all the other promotions and salary benefits went along with the insurance, but I couldn't even imagine not having insurance. I was without insurance for about 4 years, half way out of college and into my 3rd job after. I don't know how I made it through it all.
That is why I posted the tidbit about getting your glucometer free. No one should pay for something that they are giving out like, business cards at a salesman's convention. I try everything possible to save money, right down to using my infusion sets a little longer than what's recomended. Every little bit helps, but it's still not enough for some. I'm not sure that socialest medicine is the answer, but our free-market health care system, here in the US, is letting us down just as well. |
