I'd swear that eating anything after dinner causes my FBG to rise. (I don't know that it's "dawn phenomenon"; it will drop from the time I take my reading to an hour later or so, when I get to work.) My FBG seems to do better, however, if I skip that shortly-before-bedtime snack.
