My story is similar to Grace Girls. I was diagnosed as a type 2diabetic in 2003 at 43 years of age. I NEVER responded to oral agents and kept losing weight. I asked my family doctor for a c-peptide. It came back normal, but low normal. He said the discussion was over..I was a type 2 based on a normal c-peptide. I did NOT agree. I made an appointment with an endo. By the time I got to the endo I looked like I had just got out of Auschwitz, I was just skin stretched over bones. I certainly wasn't heavy to begin with but, now I was under 100 pounds. The endo took one look at me and ordered another c-peptide and a GAD antibodies. It took several weeks for the GAD to come back..but when it did it was positive. I started on insulin right away and am now pumping.
