Second .. as a newbie myself I can confidently repeat the advice I got at the start.
TEST TEST TEST
2x a day isn't enough to teach you what does and doesn't spike your glucose numbers.
Keep records. I can recommend a program called Diabetes Pilot, its downloadable and has a 2 week trial to help you get a grip on things and a decent food database to make things easier.
Test 2 hours after you eat. If your glucose number jumps what you had the last meal was either not good for
you or you ate too much of it.
"White foods" are not the only culprit, you need to become a label reader, foods that aren't "white" can and
do contain levels of carbs that will surprise you, and have added sugars you don't expect.
