I would like to know the official percentage of children of diabetic
> parents that will become afflicted with type one diabetes at some point in
> their lifetime.

from getting pregnant.<smile>

>Answer:According to Medical Management of Type 1
Diabetes by Bruce Bode, 6% of children with a father
who has diabetes and 3% of children with a mother
who has diabetes will develop type 1 diabetes during
their lifetime. Other rates are: identical twins _ 25-50%;
siblings of someone with type 1 _ 6%; and in general,
offspring _ 5%. This is in contrast to a general population
rate of 0.3-0.4%.

This is for Shy- my apologies for passing along my endos
comments when they weren't totally accurate in a previous
post so I finally got some accurate stats which I am now
passing along.<smile>
What do you all think of the rates?? I wonder why men are
quite different than women in passing diabetes along?
