I've been taking HCTZ 25mg QD for several years. In my case, it was prescribed to help lower my blood pressure.

HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention.

HCTZ treats fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, or kidney disorders, or edema caused by taking steroids or estrogen. HCTZ is also used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It may be used alone or with other medicines.
Didn't your doctor tell you why he was prescribing this medication? And if he didn't, why didn't you ask him?
