Caroline - the radiating pain is one of the typical symptoms of an swollen gallbladder or an unhappy pancreas.

If it's the gallbladder, you typically will just feel pain and uneasiness, but eating or drinking won't necessarily exacerbate it.

If it's pancreatitis, any foor or drink you consume will usually make you nauseous and may aggravate the pain.

The best thing you can do is go see the doctor - doesn't need a specialist, just your regular doc is enough. An ultrasound and some simple bloodwork (alaylase & lipase) will at least rule out if not detect either of these two problems!
