This is where I am wondering about myself--My pump basal says 20.9 units a day, but I regularly use anywhere from 50-65 units total a day. Do I eat a lot or something? I don't think I am insulin-resistant, no one has ever suggested that to me.
(By the way, I'll have a few more posts about what other people here do as far as lifestyle--I'm starting to think maybe I have been a bit flippant with my affliction).

-10units of R, 36 of N at breakfast, unless my sugar is high, then i take a few extra units.
-10units of R at dinner, unless my sugar is high, then i take a few extra units.
-32units of N at 10:30pm
so in total I have 88units on a good sugar day.

Humulog - 18 units per day roughly (6, 5, 7 usually before each meal)

This is a little , but I can almost guarantee that if you switched from NPH to Lantus, you would not be taking nearly that much insulin. When I was on shots, my NPH needs seemed to keep rising and rising and rising, and then one night it almost killed me.
Okay, back to the topic of daily insulin intake (average).
