I took Tums every day before I started eating low carb. I don't even have Tums in the house anymore. However, I do not think it is cutting the carbs that made the difference for me. See, I think what gave me heartburn was the combination in the morning of coffee + fat (butter on my toast). I also had got heartburn if I had chocolate (a lot of fat in that) with coffee. Truth is, the carbs I consumed often came along with a lot of fat. My heartburn was very mild, but it did go away with my new style of eating. I still drink coffee, but not much fat at the time I drink the coffee. That doesn't mean I have a low fat diet; it just happens that I don't often combine heavy doses of fat with coffee.
