Dealing with doctors

"Yeah, i am a little scared of doctors and drugs."

Hi Yannah,
. There are a couple of techniques you might try for dealing with your doctors. One that I use all the time is to write down stuff on a paper and hand it to him when he enters the room.
. Stuff I write down:
- Specific but short descriptions of my aches and pains, with pain levels.
- Adverse reactions that "I think" are from current meds.
- A concise list of:
the meds I'm taking;
the last blood test results;
what I'm angry/unhappy about with the current treatment.
- A reminder to have my lab test results mailed to me.

I have found that by helping the doc help me, by helping him save time, we start working my problems as a team. When he starts asking what I think of his ideas, I feel a lot better about that office visit.
Good luck,
Tom
