Best exercise - whatever will get you moving everyday. That said, it's good to combine aerobic exercise and strength-training (mind you, not necessarily weight-training).
Best bread - whole wheat bread, rye, anything with grain that has not been pulverized into fine flour; but, in any case not too much of it.
