Sorry to hear you are ending the year in a cast. It's a reall bummer to have a broken arm. I reckon the other's are right and this is not diabetes related.

One word of advice, if you have been given exercises for you fingers, do them. After the cast comes off make sure you do any physio you are offered or told to do. I broken my wrist years ago and had 2 screws inserted. Back then I healed quickly, the surgeon had told me the screws would be in for a year to life. Had the first one out about 6 weeks later and the second 4 weeks after that. I now have about 98% movement in the wrist, surgeon said that it was purely down to the physio and my determination as he expected me to have at most 10% movement (but probably less). So do the physio if any.
