Strictly speaking they are both correct at the time you tested, allowing for a tolerance of +/- 10%-20% of the meter.

But Volley gave you sound advice, decide on a routine and stick to it. My routine in the morning is wake, shower, test, take meds. Same thing everyday. The time of my test may vary as I don't always wake at the sametime but I following the same routine.

One possibility for the difference is that your liver will dump "sugar" into your blood stream as your body prepares to wake, when you tested later you body was dealing with that dump.
