| Chicago GD mom,
Great post! I think it is really good to think out of the box like this, and test to know what is going on in our bodies. As proactive patients we can sometimes discover patterns that our doctors may not know about yet.
About three years ago, I was reading more details about MODY3 and lowered renal threshold. I had been having a lot of Traditional Chinese Medicine symptoms of low "kidney system" energy - in fact my period was sometimes 70 days apart. I decided to start checking my urine readings throughout the day. I mean who checks urine glucose any more, right? I discovered that with my doctors recommendation of 180mg/dl post meal readings - I was spilling sugars in my urine almost all day. I figured out my renal threshold was about 150-160mg/dl - so I set my own post meal goal to be 150mg/dl. It made a significant difference in my health after a few weeks.
Then last year after reading Jenny Rulh's book, I lowered my post meal goals again to be below 140mg/dl in accordance with the ACE guidelines!
