Geek boy to the rescue!

How long is one of your strides?

Go out to some sand or soft dirt, and walk at the pace you would normally walk at. Measure from the center of one footprint to the center of the next (don't use the first few or last few steps).

Take that distance, and multiply by 10,000. Now divide the distance of a mile in feet (a mile is 5280) into your result.

Example:
So if an average pace is say 3 feet (I have no idea what an average really is):

3 feet x 10000 steps = 30000 feet
30000 / 5280 = 5.68 miles
